Blog Entry 1

Blog Entry 1
Why did you choose this class?
Not only did this class fulfill many of the requirements in the McDaniel Plan, the course description  also sounded pretty interesting. I've always enjoyed watching many of the Disney movies as a child and I know that the majority of them originate from the basic fairy tales. In choosing this course I really looked forward to reading the real fairy tales that Disney drew it's inspiration from. The 'Classic Fairy Tales' book also seemed like an interesting read so I looked forward to reading it as well.

What are you hoping to accomplish in the course?
In taking this course I hope to understand where the ideas for certain fairytales came from, what inspired them, and what influenced the nature of the tale. I also want my understanding of the course concepts to reflect in my completed work assignments which in turn should lend itself to an A in the course.

What is your favorite favorite folktale or fairytale of all times and why?

Hansel and Gretel is one of my favorite fairytales. I always thought the whole concept of leaving breadcrumbs to remember which direction you came from was pretty neat. It was such a simple idea that they assumed would come to their aid but it never ended up working. I also thought it was pretty cool how the writers of the fairytale chose to make the house of the 'evil witch' out of candy, out of all things, in order to draw the children into the house.

You've probably already seen it but here is the new Hansel and Gretel movie that is in theatres!
